TPM

TPM (Total Productive Manufacturing) is a supporting philosophy to drive lean manufacturing. Originally developed among Toyota's supply base, TPM has become an essential part of World Class Manufacturing, focusing improvement activities on production equipment and being used to integrate maintenance with production.

TPM has assumed great importance in the Food, Beverage and Packaging industries, where cost is very much driven by equipment performance. The goals of TPM are Zero Breakdowns, Zero Accidents and Zero Defects - performance, availability and quality.

This is where OEE comes in; it's the starting point of TPM to give both a baseline for continuous improvement and to identify improvement priorities.
