Condition Monitoring (CM) and Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM)

Regular Condition Monitoring checks enable Plant Engineers to detect faults and gain an early warning of impending problems before they can have a serious impact on operations/production, avoiding unscheduled outages. Any significant change in parameters is thus indicative of impending failure. Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) can then take place or can be planned as required in order to stabilise and extend component life.

Condition Monitoring includes advanced technologies including:
  • Vibration Measurement and Analysis
  • Infrared Thermography
  • Oil Analysis and Tribology
  • Ultrasonics
  • Motor Current Analysis
However, there are other Predictive Maintenance techniques that can also be recorded, including the use of the Human Senses (look, listen, feel, smell etc.)

Readings are recorded (often within a CMMS) and when pre-defined limits/ quality measures are not met, engineers are notified to perform preventive maintenance - before it’s too late. Tracking calibration data and inspection requirements provides audit trails for QA or Calibration Specialists, showing accurate records of all asset checks and verification that each asset has passed relevant legal, quality, environmental and HSE tests.

Idhammar Systems provides software solutions to support RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance) and CBM initiatives that form part of our customers’ Lean TPM and World Class Manufacturing programmes. Indeed, Idhammar’s Condition Tracker is a specifically designed, easy to use, multi-function solution that supports Maintenance Teams and Calibration Specialists in conducting regular condition monitoring, and auditable asset condition checks. The Condition Tracker software module can be used standalone, or fully integrated with your CMMS.
